Minimal Health Insurance Rocks
So, I've been fighting this bug for about 10 days now. My ears have been plugged, my mucus is blegh!, and I have been hacking up junk for just too long.
Steve and my mom have been telling me to see a doctor, but I kept brushing it off, waiting for my body to fight the infection. After a week and a half, clearly I wasn't getting better. So I bit the bullet and stopped by the local Urgent Care.
No, I did not call my "primary care physician." No, I did not call a busy doc office with the hope that they could "squeeze me in." No, I did not fill out any insurance information. And no, I will not receive a million different "statements" and bills from a million different people for this one visit. How is this possible? I recently converted to a high deductible, emergency-only insurance plan. No doctor's visits, no prescription coverage, no basic anything covered.
And I loved it.
For about $100, I was in, out, and had my hands full of good advice and a couple prescriptions.
I saved AT LEAST that much last month in insurance premiums.
Now, I don't have to worry about my insurance sending me eighteen statements about what is covered, what is not covered, why they won't cover this and that, and how much I will owe... blah, blah, blah. So much easier. And, in the end, so much cheaper.
And, since I paid cash upfront, I will receive NO BILL in the mail -- there will be no headache to deal with 6-8 weeks from now when I would be receiving said "bill" for a visit I couldn't even remember having.
All in all, I have never been so happy to spend $100.
Oh, and by the way... I've got two ear infections, a sinus infection with visible polyps, and severe allergies.
