The Baby Lowe-down
Name: Steven Daniel Lowe III - "Danny"
Born: August 10, 2009 @ 8:22 am
Height: 20 1/2 inches
Weight: 7 lbs, 3 oz
I was in labor for about 11 1/2 hours. I labored without an epidural for about 5 (45 minutes of which was after the doctor broke my water, which was intense...)
Baby Danny/Buddy/Cutiepie cried right when his whole body came out - music to my ears. I cried. Steve cried. My mom was crying, I'm sure. I saw all the blood sloshing around and got a little woozy. The doctors had the NICU team in there with us because the baby passed a stool in the womb, so they had to immediately clean out his nose, mouth, and lungs. I was ok with that, because I was feeling a little out of it, and I could see that he was ok. After the doctor stitched everything up, I was able to hold my baby. I got to nurse him right after he was born. We are still learning that together :)
He slept almost all day in my recovery room with us. We kept trying to wake him up to eat, but he'd fall asleep every time he was next to my body. So cute.
Last night, for the sake of sanity and physical necessity, we decided to send him to the nursery. I kept putting it off... "10 more minutes... wait, 5 more minutes... ok, just a second..." When we finally called the nurse to come get him, she wheeled him out and I bawled. Haha. Five minutes later, I had Steve walk me to the nursery to check on him. I stared at him for as long as Steve would let me... then finally he talked me into coming back to the room and getting some sleep :(
Last night, I was in quite a bit of "discomfort". It was hard to sleep, but I did it with the help of many mild painkillers every couple hours. This morning, I woke up pretty early and couldn't sleep. Soooo.... I walked down to the nursery while Steve was sleeping to see if I could have my baby back. I couldn't because the pediatrician had to do his exam. It's been 40 minutes since I went down there :( Sad face.
Ok I just disappeared for like 45 minutes because the nurse brought Buddy back :) Happy face.
Anyway, I'm going to eat my awesome (uh, kind of) hospital breakfast.
