Snuggle Time
Tonight was amazing! Steve and I got to go into the NICU, just the two of us, and spend about 30 minutes holding, smelling, kissing, and snuggling Mason.
When we walked in, he was working on his tan ;) in the incubator with the blue lights shining on his skin. He was sporting a cool eye mask and wiggling around under the warmth of the light. After a few minutes, the nurse unhooked his mask and turned off the light so we could hold him. Right when she removed his "goggles", he opened his eyes and looked all around! He would look towards us when we talked to him, and he kept his eyes open and curious the whole time we were there.
Steve and I were overwhelmed with love and joy as we held him close and exchanged looks and words of gratitude for this little boy. We are amazed by all the blessings that his little life has already brought to our family. In that moment we knew that it had all been "worth it" -- the infamous phrase that we've been pounding into our heads these past 7 months.
Steve went home an hour ago, so I'm about to take another trip upstairs to visit Mason by myself :) It takes me a while to get there (still obnoxiously slow), but I can't wait to see that precious miracle again. Au revoir.
(one more thing: i don't think i was clear on how early mason was born -- he was born at 32.5 weeks! 7.5 weeks early. pretty insane!)
